Scope of Practice Support

ACFAS is committed to supporting the rights of foot and ankle surgeons to practice within the full scope of their training, experience and competence. ACFAS members can help alleviate physician shortages by providing superior and competent care to diseases of the foot and related lower extremities, including rearfoot/ankle surgery. ACFAS wants to reach out to better educate lawmakers and regulators about foot and ankle surgeons and gain their support.

ACFAS applauds the California Podiatric Medical Association (CPMA) in their work on a joint task force with California Orthopaedic Association (COA) and the California Medical Association (CMA) to study podiatric medical education's equivalency with allopathic education

The College is also working at the national level on the AMA Resolution with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS), and the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) to addresses the goal of equivalency in education pathways and certification.
